You’re probably aware of the saying “hurt people hurt people.” We’ve all been wounded by others, and without proper treatment, bitterness and resentment can take root in our hearts, which prevents us from having healthy relationships with others and with God. Let me share an example from my life.
When I was in Bible College, I discovered that my past was influencing my thoughts about God. My biological father never gave me the time of day, and other father figures had physically or emotionally abused me, which caused some deep wounds. So, every time I read verses that referred to God as Father, I found myself struggling to believe having God as my Father was good news. I was okay with the idea of God being my Savior, Lord, King, etc., but thoughts of Him being a Father were negative to me.
I vividly remember the morning that I decided it was unhealthy for me to allow my past experience to prevent me from accepting and enjoying God as my good heavenly Father. I fell to my knees and asked God to help me understand what it means that He is my heavenly Father. Over the years, God has graciously used Scripture, prayer, mentors, my father-in-law, and being a father to help me heal and forgive my biological dad. I’ve also learned how good it truly is to have God as my Father! What wounds are preventing you from enjoying life as a child of God?
A few months ago, I discovered an excellent resource created to help people identify hurts that are hindering their walk with Jesus. Dr. Marcus Warner, with Deeper Walk International, wrote Understanding the Wounded Heart to help people experience transformation and healing from their current and previous hurts.
Thanks to a generous donor, Dr. Warner created a free five-session video eCourse with downloadable notes! In this course, you will learn how to build joy, take thoughts captive, offer true forgiveness, listening prayer, and more. I went through it and found it very helpful. You can access it at this link https://deeperwalkinternational.org/product/understanding-the-wounded-heart-ecourse/.
Let me encourage you to prayerfully consider taking advantage of this free resource designed to help wounded hearts find healing. It can be used as a personal study or as a small group study. We serve a God who desires to heal the broken-hearted. I hope that God uses it to set you free from past hurts so that you can fully enjoy the abundant life that is ours in Jesus! After being healed, we can better partner with Him to see other wounded hearts healed.
Grace & Peace, Rev. Jamie George
